Serie A results: Napoli boost European hopes

The Naples-based side continued chasing Juventus at the top of Serie A table after a convincing win over Genoa.

Goran Pandev and Blerim Dzemaili found the target for Walter Mazzarri’s men who grabbed three points at the Stadio San Paolo while Edinson Cavani did not manage to convert a penalty kick to add the third one.

Napoli reduced the gap between Juve who defeated Pescara 2-1 to nine points with seven games left to play.

Milan could not save the 2-0 lead in the game against ten men Fiorentina that managed to bounce back through two second half penalties.

The Rossoneri opened the score courtesy of Riccardo Montolivo shot 14 minutes into the game. Fiorentina was reduced to ten men as Nenad Tomovic fouled Stephan El Shaarawy, following Mathieu Flamini’s close-range effort finding the target.

The Viola made a quick response as Antonio Nocerino fouled on Ljajic in the area and Nocerino himself fired the penalty down the middle, giving the side renewed hope. Seven minutes later Fiorentina leveled courtesy of Pizarro penalty kick that completed a superb comeback.
