Sir Alex Ferguson: City inspired us to a win

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson revealed that it was Man City’s last season’s Premier League title win that inspired his side to claim it back this season reasonably in advance.

Manchester United are within 90 minutes of clinching their 20th Premier League title as they need to record a win over relegation strugglers, to open up a 16-point gap that will be impossible for the second-placed cross-town rivals to bridge, with 5 games to go. With Manchester City’s 3-1 defeat to Tottenham, the Citizens have lost and any chance of continuing their Premier League chase.

Sir Alex Ferguson said: “We had a big job to do. The way we lost it, and the fact it was City, gave us an incentive. You have to admire the focus we have shown this season. We are resilient and the consistency has been good.

“Like all the previous teams, they never give in. That is a fact. It is the history of the club more than anything. Once they have been here two or three years, the players buy into it. These are the qualities that have helped them to be where they are just now,” he added.
