Sunderland Di Canio sees the room for improvement

Sunderland boss Paolo Di Canio admitted his side should avoid the mistakes that cost them 2-1 defeat at the hands of Chelsea in order to retain their top-flight status.

Di Canio’s first game in charge of Sunderland ended in a somewhat unlucky 2-1 defeat to Chelsea, despite players bending every effort to impress their new manager. Defensive lapses coast the Black Cats dear at Stamford Bridge, however the Italian believes the team should learn its lesson and avoid the mistakes in future.

Sunderland are currently on a nine-game winless run and are lying in the 17th Premier League spot, with only goal difference keeping his side above 18th-placed Wigan. Di Canio is adamant his team has a room for improvement. He said: We’ve got to do much better. The lads are ready to work hard and we’ll analyse the mistakes. That way people can improve and next time they’ll consider doing something else.”
