Sunderland to hijack Arsenal bid for starlet Benjamin Mendy

Sunderland are looking to steal highly-rated Le Havre defender Benjamin Mendy from under Arsenal noses, as they have launched a £5 million bid.

Le Havre have reportedly rejected Arsenal £2.5 million offer for their youngster, saying they will not settle for anything less than £5 million. And while Arsenal are considering whether they should raise their initial bid, the Black Cats could snap up the talented 18-year-old France international.

Cardiff, Juventus and Lyon are also closely monitoring the situation with the player. Despite his relatively young age, Mendy has established himself as a useful first-team player, having made 37 first-team appearances for the club.
