Swansea secure Jonathan de Guzman signing on loan
Swansea manager Michael Laudrup announced the signing of Villareal midfielder Jonathan de Guzman on a season-long loan.
The two worked together in Mallorca back in 2010, and according to the player there was nothing to think about after the offer had come from Michael Laudrup and Swansea.
Recently the Swans were joined by the former Genoa defender Jose Manuel and Guzman arrival clearly suggests that the club wants to strengthen the squad and to stay in the strong mid-position during the season. The club paid £2m for the Italian defender while the fee for de Guzman was undisclosed.
Jonathan de Guzman was born in Canada and started playing football there yet later moved to Netherlands to play for Feyenoord’s youth team. The player made more than 100 appearances in the first squad of the Dutch club, afterwards moving to Mallorca and Villareal.
In 2008 De Guzman received Dutch citizenship and started playing for the youth team, winning four titles with the Netherlands U-21 team.
