Tottenham Spurs and Manchester City on fire in the Capital One Cup

Tottenham Spurs and Manchester City on fire in the Capital One Cup

Manchester City stay in-form as they beat Wigan Athletic 5-0 at Etihad Stadium. The second-string squad that included the likes of Dedryck Boyata, Marcos Lopes, Stevan Jovetic, Costel Pantilimon, Joleon Lescott and returning Micah Richards, left Owen Coyle’s side in tatters and the Citizens maintain brilliant run after comfortable wins in three tournaments, including the one against arch-rivals Manchester United last Sunday.

Jermain Defoe starred for Tottenham scoring a brace as the Spurs put in a commanding display at Villa Park. Paulinho and Chadli also netted on the night. Andre Villas-Boas was pleased with the English veteran’s performance but did not specify whether he would let him play in the Premier League.

Sunderland progressed after winning their first match without Paolo Di Canio.

Roberto Martinez lost his first match at the helm of Everton as Dimitar Berbatov and Darren Bent denied Steven Naismith’s goal.

Sunderland 2-0 Peterborough United
West Ham United 3-2 Cardiff City
Manchester City 5-0 Wigan Athletic
Burnley 2-1 Nottingham Forest

Swindon Town 0-2 Chelsea
Watford 2-3 Norwich City
