World Cup qualifiers. Key European Fixtures: France vs Spain

After the Sunday’s games in European qualifying zone for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil, the balance of power in Group I appears to be tilting in favour of France. With Spain held to a 1-1 draw by stubborn Finland, France did just enough to see off the challenge of Georgia 3-1 and leapfrog their rivals at the top of the Group I.

Currently France are lying in the first place, two points clear above Spain, and should they secure the victory over Vicente del Bosque’s men on Tuesday, they will cement the first spot and confirm their direct-qualification ambitions.

Spain recent form:

Spain slipped up to an unlikely draw against Finland at Estadio El Molinón on Friday. Despite the reigning World and Europe champions dominating the game, Finland managed to score the equalizer in the 79th by courtesy of Pukki’s goal, his team’s first attempt on goal.

France recent form:

France have comfortably beaten Georgia 3-1 even without several key players. They started with Giroud and Benzema up front and youngsters Pogba and Varane in midfield and defense respectively. However Deschamps is likely to reshape his squad for the game against mighty Spaniards.

Spain team news:

Mathieu Debuchy will definitely miss the game against Spain after suffering and injury while playing for Newcastle. Christophe Jallet is likely to fill the vacant right-back position.

France team news:

Xavi Hernandez and Xabi Alonso were dropped out from the clash with Finland due to fitness issues. However they are likely to feature in the game against France.

Jordi Alba is set to be assessed by the medical staff to determine whether he is fit enough to take part in upcoming fixture, with Nacho Monreal being prepared to replace him at the back.

Both firm first-choice goalkeeper Casillas and the influential defender Puyol are ruled out due to injuries, meaning Valdes to take the place between the sticks.

David Silva has been suspended due to yellow cards’ accumulation.
