Adam James Matthews is a footballer from Wales, currently playing for Celtic as a right back. He was born in 1992 in Swansea and in childhood went in for rugby, but then switched to football. Matthews came through the youth system of Cardiff City, where he stayed between 2000 and 2009.
In January 2009 he signed a professional contract with the club and played for the side till 2011, when he moved to Celtic. His debut came on 7 August in the match against Aberdeen, which was a 1-0 win. He helped the team to win the Scottish Premier League in 2011/12 and on 1 August 2012 made his Champions League debut. That game was the game against HJK.
On 28 February 2008 Matthews made his first international appearance, representing the Wales U-17 team in a 1-0 victory over Austria. His senior squad debut came on 25 May 2011 in the Nations Cup game against Scotland.
