Alex, or Alexsandro de Souza, is a football player from Brazil. He was born in 1977 and began his professional playing career with Coritiba in 1995. In 1997 he moved to São Paulo, joining Palmeiras, where he played for them until 2000. During his stay with the club they won Copa do Brasil and Copa Mercosur in 1998, Copa Libertadores in 1999, Torneio Rio-São Paulo and Copa dos Campeões in 2000.
In 2001 Alex had a short spell at Cruzeiro and moved to Italy, where he played for Parma but didn’t stay there for long and returned to Cruzeiro. He was a part of Cruzeiro until 2004 and helped them to win Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, Copa do Brasil and Minas Gerais Championship in 2003. In 2001 and 2002 they were Copa Sul-Minas winners, in 2004 the team one Minas Gerais Championship title.
Alex left Brazil for Turkey where he signed for Fenerbahçe for €5 million in 2004. In September 2012 he appeared in his last match for the team and returned to Brazil, where he re-joined Coritiba. While he played for Fenerbahçe they claimed Süper Lig titles in 2004/05, 2006/07 and 2010/11. In 2007 and 2009 the team was Süper Kupa winners and in 2011/12 they won the Turkish Cup.
Alex played for the Brazil national youth level, when they won South American Youth Championship in 1992 and 1995. In 1995 and 1997 they were South American Under-17 Football Championship winners. Between 1998 and 2005 he was called up to play for the senior team and won the Olympic Games in 2000, Copa América in 1999, 2001 and 2004. In 1999 and 2003 Brazil was Confederations Cup winner.
