Alexander Ring was born on 9 April 1991 in Helsinki. Ring’s parents are from Finland, but moved to Germany after his father got a job there.
That is why Alexander’s first club was VfL Lannesdorf. In 2000 the young footballer signed for Bayer 04 Leverkusen and spent 8 years at the club, before his family returned to Finland. In 2009 Ring joined HJK’s reserve team Klubi-04 and stayed there until signing a professional contract with the club. He made his first team debut and received a yellow card on 31 July 2010 in the match versus Vaasa PS. In August 2010 the footballer was loaned to Tampere United and a month later played his first match for the club against FC Lahti. In the second match Alexander delivered his debut goal for the club, and then never scored a single goal neither for Tampere United nor for Borussia Mönchengladbach, where he soon moved on a loan spell.
On 6 January 2012 the footballer joined Mönchengladbach on loan until June 2013. Ring played his debut match for Mönchengladbach on 10 March 2012 against Freiburg. Upon the end of the spell Ring joined Kaiserslautern.
The Finn was capped for the national teams, including the U-18, U-19 and U-20 squads. He made his senior debut on 7 June 2011 against Sweden. Ring has played 9 games for the national team.
