Anders Svensson is a central midfielder at Elfsborg. Svensson was born on 17 July 1976 in Gothenburg, Sweden. The team captain and playmaker, he is recognized for his passing and set-piece abilities.
Anders started training at Guldhedens football school at an early age. He later played for the youth squads of Hestrafors and Elfsborg. In 1992 Svensson signed a professional contract with Elfsborg and debuted for the first team. From 1992 to 2001 he made 155 appearances and scored 38 goals for the club.
On 14 June 2001 Svensson was transferred to Southampton for a fee of £750.000. He was one of the key players at Southampton from 2001 to 2005, featuring in 127 games and scoring 10 goals. Anders also took part in the 2003 FA Cup Final match against Arsenal, which his team lost 1–0. In 2005 his contract with the club expired. Svensson was offered a new one, but the footballer refused to extend his spell at Southampton.
In January 2005 Svensson put his pen-to-paper on a contract with his former side Elfsborg. Since then he has participated in over 180 games and scored more than 20 goals for the Swedish club.
From 1995 to 1998 Anders made 16 appearances and netted 2 goals for the Sweden U21 squad. In 1999 he debuted for the senior national team. Since 1999 he has registered over 70 appearances for Sweden, participating in all major international competitions, such as the 2002 FIFA World Cup, Euro 2004, the 2006 FIFA World Cup and Euro 2008.
