A Brazilian footballer Antônio Carlos dos Santos Aguiar acts as a defender for Botafogo. He was born on 22 June 1983 in Rio de Janeiro.
In 2003, Antônio graduated from the academy of Fluminense, where he played for the youth team, and grabbed his first pro contract with the club. Whilst playing for the squad, Carlos was awarded with the 2005 Taça Rio. He also won the 2005 Rio de Janeiro State League under the club’s flag. His successful performance was noticed by scouts from other world clubs. In 2005, the defender’s contract was bought out by the French AC Ajaccio. He played for the European club during two years, making 44 appearances and netting 2 times.
In 2007, Carlos returned to Brazil, where he was hired by Atlético Paranaense. He’d spent a season with the club, before a loan spell with Atlético Goianiense followed. In 2010, the defender was loaned to Botafogo. He immediately established himself in the starting squad and had some successful runs with the temporary club. Aguiar together with the team became the holder of the 2010 Taça Guanabara and the 2010 Taça Rio. That year was also lined with winning the title of the champion of the Campeonato Carioca. After such a fabulous spell, the defender was obviously desired to be at the club’s disposal. In 2011, a long term contract on permanent basis was penned.
