Antonio López Guerrero is a Spanish defender currently playing for RCD Mallorca.
He spent his whole football education period at the football academy of Atlético Madrid. Since 1999 till 2001 he played 63 games for Atlético Madrid B until he was promoted to the main squad. His first appearance for the first team took place in the season 2000/01 while ‘Colchoneros’ were still struggling to get promoted from the Segunda. A season later when Atlético Madrid finally managed to return to La Liga the footballer gained 20 matches for the side but soon was sold to Osasuna with a buy-back possibility. The footballer spent 71 games for the Navarrese team scoring twice until he was remembered of by his former club that activated the re-buy option two seasons after the player was sold.
Having rejoined Atlético he became a starter at once but soon gave up his position on the field to another player being transferred to the right flank of defense due to injuries of the key players. Antonio also was appointed the side’s captain and contributed to the team with crucial goals against Sevilla and Valencia in the seasons 2009/10 heading late winner in the first case and making the score 2-1 in the second. His hour of fame happened at the end of the season 2009/10 when Antonio played 120 minutes of the UEFA Europa League eventually lifting the trophy as captain.
Antonio López Guerrero played 343 official games and scored 11 times for his squad but in 2012 he moved to Mallorca on a 2+1 contract.
The Spaniard performed for his national team from 2005 till 2007 with 16 games and one goal. He also was one of those to be capped for the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany.
