Apostolos Vellios is a Greek striker, born in Thessaloniki, Greece.
Vellios began his career in 2008 by joining the Iraklis academy. A year later, on 26 April 2009, the young striker made his senior début in the match against Xanthi. Another half a year later he netted his first goal in career, belting the ball into the net of famous Greek side Olympiacos.
In the middle of 2010/2011 Apostolos drew the attention of such top Greek clubs as Olympiacos and AEK, but he decided to move to England. On 31 January 2011, Vellios joined Liverpool side Everton for £250,000 and signed for the new club on a four-year deal.
At first he played only for the reserve team, but on 2 April 2011, the striker made his main team début in the game against Aston Villa (a 2-2 draw).
On 17 September 2011, Apostolos scored his first goal for the new squad, which was a decisive second goal in a 3-1 win over Wigan Athletic. A month later, on 15 October 2011, Vellios banged in another goal, this time to Chelsea keeper Petr Čech. However, that was a consolation goal for Everton, because the Merseyside side club lost 3-1. Another month later, on 26 November, the striker showed his wonderful skills one more time in the match against Bolton, when he strengthened the advantage of his club (2-0).
Vellios took part in 13 league games and contributed three goals during 2011/2012. Besides, the Greek striker was voted the Everton Young Footballer of the Year. After a brief loan spell with Blackpool in 2013/2014 season, Vellios penned a permanent deal with Lierse in the summer 2014.
Apostolos has three international caps for the Greece national U-17 team and 14 times for the U-19 squad. He amassed seven goals in the latter. From 2011 the striker has been playing for the full Greece national U-21 team, made two appearances and fired two goals.
