Aron Einar Gunnarsson is a midfielder of Cardiff City. He was born on 22 April 1989 in Akureyri, Iceland.
In 2005, Aron was absolutely ready for a professional start in the Icelandic league and penned his first senior contract with Þór Akureyri. However, the footballer made only 11 appearances for the club and moved to the Netherlands.
In 2006, Gunnarsson transferred to Alkmaar Zaanstreek, but did not manage to clinch a regular place in the main squad and took part only in one fixture for the team during two years.
In 2008, the player sealed a three-year deal with English side Coventry City and became the pivot in midfield, who could easily speed up team’s attacks and provide support in defense. Aron featured in 122 matches and netted six goals during three seasons.
In the summer 2011, Welsh side Cardiff City secured the footballer’s services and saw him score 11 goals in 68 games as of January 2013.
In 2005, Gunnarsson made seven appearances and found the net two times for the Iceland national U-17 squad. From 2006 till 2011, he took part in 27 fixtures and chipped in two goals for the national U-19 and U-21 teams. From 2008, the midfielder has been capped 33 times for the full national squad.
