Athanasios “Thanos” Petsos was born on 5 June 1991 in Düsseldorf, Germany. He has both Greek and German citizenships and competes for the Greece national team.
Thanos began his football career when 8 years old at Düsseldorf 99 SC. In 2001 the player was lured away to Bayer Leverkusen. Petsos progressed through many levels of youth football and was part of the squad that finished runner-up in the U-19 Bundesliga. His reserve team debut came in March 2010. 24 April 2010 was marked by the footballer’s debut in the Bundesliga versus Hannover 96.
In 2010 Thanos penned his 1st professional contract tying him to Bayer Leverkusen until 2014. However, the young player was immediately sent out on a 2-year loan to 1. FC Kaiserslautern. He made his first line-up start on 13 November 2010 in the Bundesliga match versus VfB Stuttgart.
In 2012 the recently promoted to the 1st division SpVgg Greuther Fürth signed Petsos from Bayer Leverkusen on a 3-year. In the summer 2013 the Greek switched for an Austrian outfit Rapid Wien.
