Then he joined the youth system of Hapoel Tel Aviv and having graduated he moved to the English Premier League outfit Chelsea. The transfer happened in May 2006 and was of £320,000.

In the summer of 2009 Sahar left Chelsea and signed a four-year deal with Espanyol for £1million. After a season in Spain he returned to Israel signing a loan deal with Hapoel Tel Aviv, where he stayed until his loan move to the French team Auxerre. In July 2012 Ben Sahar left Espanyol and joined Hertha BSC as a free agent.
He represented the Israel national team at U17, U18 and U21 levels and since 2007 has been a part of the senior squad.
