Cédric Kanté is a Malian defender currently playing for Sochaux in the Ligue 1. He was born on 6 July 1979 in Strasbourg, France.
Cédric began his youth career at the youth system of his hometown club RC Strasbourg in 1996. He turned professional with the club in 1999 aged 19. In 2001, he moved to second-division side FC Istres and in the 2002/03 season played 32 matches for ASOA Valence. In 2003, Kanté returned to his feeder club RC Strasbourg and played for them for three years amassing 91 league appearances. After that he had a three-year stint at Nice where he played 97 games. In 2009, Kanté signed for Greek Panathinaikos and helped them to win the Greek Super League and Greek Cup in the 2009/10 season. In the summer 2012, the Malian defender switched to Sochaux and plays for the club today.
Cédric Kanté is capped to the Mali national team since 2006.
