Cha Du-Ri is a right-sided defender of South Korean descent who plays for FC Seoul. He was born on 25 July 1980 in Frankfurt am Main, West Germany.
Cha Du-Ri commenced his senior career at Bayer Leverkusen in 2002, but was immediately loaned out to Arminia Bielefeld. During his 2002/2003 season at the club Cha registered 22 appearances and scored a goal.
The next season the player moved to Eintracht Frankfurt on loan, where he participated in 31 games and netted a goal. Following his positive display during the loan spell, Cha’s move to Arminia was made permanent in 2004. From 2004 to 2006 the footballer made 56 appearances and scored 11 goals for the German club.
Cha Du-Ri played as a striker nominally, before joining Mainz 05 and switching to the right-back position in 2006. During the 2006/2007 season a severe foot injury checked his progress and forced the footballer to sit out for several months. Following the club’s relegation after the end of the season, Cha terminated his contract with Mainz 05.
In 2007 the footballer signed for TuS Koblenz. During his 2007-2009 stay at the club he made 61 outings and netted 3 goals. Cha spent the 2009/2010 season at SC Freiburg, making 23 appearances and scoring 1 goal.
In 2010 Cha Du-Ri completed a move to Celtic. From 2010 to 2012 the player took part in 31 games and netted 2 goals for the club. On 8 June 2012 Cha penned a two-year deal with Fortuna Düsseldorf. However, in 2013 he moved to South Korea and joined a K-League side FC Seoul.
Cha Du-Ri has been called up to the South Korea national squad since 2001, having made over 60 appearances.
