Chris Kirkland is a goalkeeper of Sheffield Wednesday. He was born on 2 May 1981 in Barwell, Leicestershire, England.
In 1998, Chris penned his first professional contract with Coventry City and made several appearances for the club during his début season, which helped him to become more confident and gain the initial experience. However, the footballer faced serious competition for a regular place between the posts and took part only in 24 fixtures during three years.
In 2001, Kirkland sealed a five-year deal with Liverpool, but had to watch many games from the substitutes’ bench as well. The keeper featured in 25 matches for ‘The Reds’ during four years and went on loan to West Bromwich Albion, where he made ten appearances before completing a temporary move to Wigan, where he took part in nine fixtures and earned the right to play on permanent basis.
In the summer 2006, Chris put pen to paper of a contract with ‘Latics’ and featured in 122 games for the club before being loaned out to Leicester City, where he took part in three matches. In 2011, the footballer made one appearance for Doncaster Rovers and decided to look for better opportunities, which entailed his permanent move to Sheffield Wednesday in January 2012. Kirkland took part in 31 fixtures for ‘The Owls’ as of February 2013.
From 2001 till 2003, the keeper featured in eight games for the England national U-21 squad. From 2006, he has been capped one time for the full national team.
