Chris Smalling is a back of Manchester United. He was born on 22 November 1989 in a London suburb.
The youth career of a future back began in Walderslade Boys, the local club, where Smalling played for the youth team. Later he had a demonstration in Maidstone United, which invited him to train in its academy. During several years Chris played for the youth team but then the time to start a professional career came.
In 2007 Smalling was offered to sign a professional contract with Maidstone United and to become the first team player. Chris signed the contract the same year and in 2007/2008 he started to play as a regular. During that season he was not a pivot of the team, but the head coach often let him on the field so the young player could gain necessary experience.
In 2008 Chris Smalling signed for Fulham. From 2008 till 2010 he occasionally took part in matches of the club, but those appearances were not on continuing basis. Smalling played only 13 games during two years.
However, poor playing practice did not prevent Chris from moving to Manchester United, which signed him for a long term. Smalling continues to perform for the club and starts to gain proper shape, while Alex Ferguson does everything possible for Chris to correspond to the first team level. From 2010 Smalling has made 35 appearances for the club and got on the scoresheet, netting one goal.
From 2008 till 2011, Chris was capped 20 times for the England national U-18, U-20 and U-21 teams and netted two goals. From 2011 Smalling has been a player of the Three Lions and he made three appearances for the national squad.
