Christoph Tobias Metzelder is a famous German back from Haltern, West Germany, who played for Preußen Münster, Borussia Dortmund, Real Madrid and Schalke 04. He had a lot of experience in performing for the Germany national team (about 50 caps). He has a ‘Metze’ nickname.
Metzelder’s first club was TuS Haltern, which he joined at the age of 6 and stayed there till 1995. In 1995/1996 he moved to the Schalke youth team, but the following season Christoph went to Preußen Münster and made his first professional appearance in that club.
In 2000 Metzelder transferred to Borussia Dortmund, where he was primarily seen as a reserve team player. A bit later main defenders Christian Wörns and Stefan Reuter were injured and the footballer got the chance to come on the pitch with the full squad, which he used in a 1-0 victory over F.C. Hansa Rostock in the first round of the 2000/2001 Bundesliga.
The talented back was soon called up to ‘The DFB-Eleven’. His international début came on 15 August 2001, when ‘Die Mannschaft’ hammered the Hungary national team in a friendly match (5-2).
In the summer 2007 the defender signed for Real Madrid, which was led by Bernd Schuster at that time. Christoph spent three seasons in Spain, returned to Germany in 2010 and penned a contract with Schalke till the end of 2013. After that Christoph joined an amateur club TuS Haltern.
Metzelder made a lot of crowning sport achievements during his career and has a whole clutch of honours. He picked up the silver medal of the 2002 World Cup, the bronze medal of the 2006 World Cup, lifted the DFB-Pokal in 2011, became the Bundesliga champion in 2002 and the La Liga champion in 2008. Christoph was voted the best young player of Europe in 2002 and those are only the most cinematic footballer’s achievements.
