Craig George Cathcart is a back, born on 6 February 1989 in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
In 1999, Craig joined the academy of Carnmoney Colts and spent four years there. The footballer managed to develop his best defensive qualities and started to come on the pitch in the starting line-up of various junior squads. In 2003, Cathcart became a trainee of St Andrew’s Boys’ Club and stayed with the new team till 2005, when he drew the attention of Manchester United. The back was glad to have the opportunity to play for one of the English top-flight clubs and moved to Manchester without hesitation.
In 2007, Craig graduated from the academy of ‘The Red Devils’ and penned a professional contract. The same year, the footballer went on loan to Royal Antwerp, where he made 13 appearances and netted two goals. In the summer 2008, Cathcart sealed a temporary deal with Plymouth Argyle and fired one goal in 31 fixtures for the team till 2009, when he finalized a loan move to Watford. The back featured in 12 matches during his spell and returned to Manchester United, but received a tempting offer from Blackpool and decided to accept it in 2010. Craig made 92 appearances and found the net two times for ‘The Seasiders’ during four seasons. In the summer 2014 he completed a move to Watford.
From 2006 till 2009, the footballer took part in 15 games for the Northern Ireland national U-21 squad. From 2010, he has been capped 15 times for the senior national team.
