Edin Cocalić was born on 5 December 1987 in Višegrad, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Cocalić plays as a centre back.
Edin started his football career in Željezničar where he spent eleven years and captained the team during his last three years with this club. The footballer won numerous prizes at youth level and became known as the youngest captain in the club’s history.
The highlight of his career was scoring a goal in a derby against the club’s fierce rivals FK Sarajevo in a cup game. This goal inspired all the team to a 3-1 win which allowed Željezničar to advance to the semi-final.
Edin was on the verge of penning a contract with German side MSV Duisburg but the parties failed to reach an agreement. In January 2010 Cocalić sealed a deal with a Greek club Panionios.
On 9 January 2012 the Bosnian defender officially joined Maccabi Haifa. On 8 February 2012 he netted his debut goal for this club in an Israeli Cup game against Maccabi Be’er Sheva.
In 2003 Edin Cocalić captained the Bosnia and Herzegovina national U-17 team. From 2005 to 2008 the footballer was capped for the Bosnia and Herzegovina national U-19 and U-21 football teams. In 2009 the defender was first called up to the senior side.
