Edin Džeko is a striker and winger of Manchester City. He was born on 17 March 1986 in Sarajevo, Bosnia.
He spent his youth in the Željezničar academy, where the player trained till 2003, when joined the first team.
In 2003 Edin signed his first contract with Željezničar. Till 2005 Džeko took part in many games of the club, making 40 appearances and scoring five goals during two years.
In 2005 Džeko was offered to sign a contract with FK Teplice. Everything was arranged for a long term, but Edin skipped the first season in the new club being sent on loan to Ústí nad Labem. Džeko made 15 appearances for the temporary club and netted 16 goals by the end of his loan spell. After returning to Teplice, Edin started to play as a regular, took part in 43 games and found the net six times.
In 2007 there occurred a change in Edin’s career, which influenced his further performance for the better. The German side Wolfsburg paid €4 million for the Balkan player and signed a professional four-year contract. Edin became the best goalscorer of the club, netting 66 goals in 111 matches. Due to his outstanding performance, talent and swift development, Džeko started to get offers from the best European teams.
In January 2011 Manchester City agreed on the transfer with Wolfsburg and paid £32.5 million for the player. Edin Džeko signed a four-year contract and became the most expensive footballer in the Premier League.
From 2003 till 2007 he was capped for the Bosnia & Herzegovina national U-19 and U-21 teams, making nine appearances and contributing a goal. From 2007 Edin has been regularly called for the senior national team and helped his team to qualify for the World Cup in 2014.
