The beginning of 2008 was marked by another loan, this time at Bury, where Elliott took part in 19 games and fired one goal during the rest part of the season. In the summer 2008, the temporary club decided to extend the loan contract with the footballer for one year and Bennett consolidated his position in the team, becoming the pivot of midfield. He made 46 appearances and found the net three times during one season.
In 2009 Elliott transferred to Brighton & Hove Albion on permanent basis and performed for the club during two years. He took part in 89 matches and amassed 13 goals during his spell, becoming the anchor player of midfield. In the summer 2011, English side Norwich City secured the services of the footballer, who made 32 appearances and went on to net one time during the 2011/2012 season.
