Emanuel Pogatetz was born on 16 January 1983 in Graz, Austria. He currently plays as a defender for FC Nurnberg and Austria national football team.
His senior club career started at FC Kärnten in 2000 where he spent, however, only one season. From 2001 to 2005 Emanuel was a part of Bayer Leverkusen, but being constantly out on loan, he never scored a goal during a four-year spell at the club. At the same time, while on loan at Grazer AK, he helped the club to win the Austrian Cup and Austrian Football Bundesliga in 2004. Before these honours, Pogatetz was awarded the Austrian Cup trophy only once in 2001.
The 2005-2010 seasons he spent at Middlesbrough FC registering himself with 4 goals for the club. In 2010 Emanuel Pogatetz was signed be the German side Hannover 96 where he played until 2012, amassing 56 appearances.
After short spells with Wolfsburg and West Ham Pogatetz joined FC Nurnberg in the summer 2013.
