Federico Julian Fazio is an Argentinian defender for Sevilla FC and the national team of Argentina. As many Argentine footballers Fazio has a double citizenship possessing an Italian passport.
He started his career at the club Ferro Carril Oeste from Buenos Aires. His height was an advantage to other players as it gave him a possibility to win all high balls. The fans call him a ‘lamppost’ or a ‘tower’.
The first club he performed for was satisfied with the play delivered by the defender but the player himself was dissatisfied with the club’s position in the championship of Argentina. That factor was influential when he decided to leave the club.
He moved to Sevilla in January of 2007 but everything wasn’t as easy as in his former club. Federico couldn’t get through to the first team and played for the club’s reserve. But with time he became involved in the games for the main squad more and more often. The huge number of injuries of the key players helped him as Javi Navarro had knee problems and Julien Escude had an injured pubic bone. So little by little he became an integral part of the squad that managed to win the UEFA Cup two times in a row.
Fazio made his debut as a first-team player in August of 2007 in the beginning of the new season. He scored his first goal on May 7, 2008 against Racing. In a week he scored once again against Real Bétis. Strange enough, he played in defensive midfield in both games.
