From 2002 to 2005 the footballer always got into the starting eleven because he was a very important member of the team. Valiani was a utility player so the head coach could use the midfielder in different positions depending on the situation on the field. From 2002 to 2005 Francesco kicked 12 goals in 92 matches for Pistoiese.
In 2005 Valiani signed a contract with Rimini and when the new season started he was immediately included in the starting eleven. He became one of the key midfielders and scored 9 goals in 92 matches for three years. In January 2008 the football player signed a contract with Bologna where he spent two years and a half. During this period he took part in 72 games and kicked 7 goals for this club.
On January 29, 2010 two days before the winter transfer window closed Francesco Valiani signed a long-term contract with Parma. Valiani adjusted to the new conditions quickly and became the key midfielder.
In the summer 2012 Valiani made his debut for Siena.
