Frédéric Oumar Kanouté is a Malian striker who currently represents Beijing Guoan. He was born on September 2, 1977 in Sainte-Foy-lès-Lyon, France.
Frédéric has been prolific throughout his career. A product of Olympique Lyonnais academy, he blasted 9 goals in 58 matches during his first spell there before moving to West Ham United in the year of 2000. He was signed initially on a loan deal. But soon the target man became the fans’ favourite and the club didn’t even hesitate in making his move to the Boleyn Ground a permanent one. The clinical striker netted a total of 29 goals in 84 games for West Ham. After the Hammers suffered relegation in 2003, Kanouté switched to Tottenham Hotspur. There, the player found things slightly tougher – but still he bagged 14 goals in 60 appearances for the Spurs.
His brilliant form led to him signing for Sevilla in 2005. Frédéric celebrated his debut with a fine goal at Middlesbrough in the 2006 UEFA Cup Final. All in all, Frédéric made 209 starts and fired 88 goals during his full seven seasons with Sevilla.
On June 29, 2012 Beijing Guoan confirmed the signing of the player. He put in classy performance on his debut, scoring twice.
During the 1998-2001 period Kanouté performed for the France U-21 team. From 2004 to 2010 he represented Mali on the international arena. The pacy striker struck 23 goals in 39 matches.
