Gaizka Toquero. Biography

Gaizka Toquero plays as a winger for Athletic Bilbao.

After a rather short stay at Real Sociedad’s youth academy and some years in both youth teams of Deportivo Alavés he made his professional debut for SD Lemona during the season of 2006/07.

He spent the following season as a part of Sestao and then in 2008 he accomplished his move to Athletic Bilbao. Right after that he went on loan to Eibar where he spent 15 games in the season of 2008/09.

On January 1, 2009 Toquero came back from loan to Athletic Bilbao and 6 days later he made his first appearance in a La Liga match against Espanyol when he came in as a second-half substitute. That game finished in a 1-1 draw. The first time that he netted a ball for Athletic was on March 4, 2009 against Sevilla in the Copa del Rey.

Toquero is a gifted player with a great sense of goal and wonderful technique. Those qualities make him a firm starter for his club. The player in his turn pays back with goals and assists. All that helped to achieve the finals of the Europa League and the Copa del Rey in the season 2011/12.
