Gary Medel is a Chilean midfielder and flank defender of Cardiff City.
His career started in Universidad Católica where he made his debut as a professional player in 2006.
The national Chile U-20 team managed to achieve the 4th place on the South American Youth Championship. Then they reached the 3rd place on the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada where they were beaten by the future champions from Argentina. Medel scored his first goal in the championship of Chile in 2007 in a derby against Universidad de Chile. Unfortunately the end of the year was unlucky as he had a series of injuries, a car incident and a bunch of other troubles.
He was recognized as the best player of 2008 and it helped him to maintain his position in the starting 11 of the national team.
He announced about his move to Boca Juniors in 2009 and three days since his move he got a chance on the pitch. After the season of 2009 he secured his place in the Chile’s squad for the World Cup 2010 and he was included into the dream team of South America.
He signed for Sevilla FC on January 21, 2011 and appeared in 76 matches of the club during two seasons.
In the summer 2013 Cardiff City offered Sevilla £11m for the player and the Chilean joined the Welsh club.
