George Weah is a retired footballer. He was born in 1966 in Monrovia, Liberia, and played for local football teams Mighty Barrolle, Invincible Eleven. He also played for the Ivorian team Africa Sports and Cameroonian Tonnerre Yaoundé. In 1988 he joined Monaco, guided by Arsène Wenger at that time. Weah helped the team to win Coupe de France in 1991. In 1992 he moved to Paris Saint-Germain, where he played until 1995. During that period they won Ligue 1, two Coupe de France and Coupe de la Ligue. In 1995 Weah joined AC Milan and was a part of the team winning Serie A in 1995/96 and 1998/99, in 1995 he was named FIFA World Player of the Year and European Footballer of the Year.
In 2000 Weah had a loan spell in Chelsea and then joined Manchester City, where he stayed for s short period and wasn’t given enough playing time so he left for Marseille. Then he played for Al-Jazira and retired from playing in 2003. George Weah earned 60 caps and scored 22 goals for the Liberia national team. In 1989, 1994, 1995 he was named African Footballer of the Year, in 1995 he won Ballon d’Or.
After retirement he went in for politics and in 2005 he ran for President of Liberia, but lost the elections due to lack of education. He went to the USA and got a degree in business administration. In 2011 he became the vice president in Liberia.
