Gianluigi Buffon is a goalkeeper for Juventus F.C. He was born on 28 January 1978 in Carrara, Italy.
Buffon’s youth career started with the Parma F.C. youth system. In 1991 the young goalkeeper passed examination and was admitted to the club’s youth squad. In the course of 4 fruitful years at the academy, from 1991 to 1995, Buffon became the best goalkeeper at Parma F.C. and was offered a goalkeeper position in the starting lineup.
In 1995 Buffon was mature enough to sign the first professional contract with Parma F.C. From his debut season Buffon was a first-choice goalkeeper and never fell out of the first squad in 6 consecutive years. By 2001 Buffon developed into a reliable and fast learning goalkeeper, which got him the attention of the top European clubs.
In 2001 Gianluigi Buffon was acquired by Italian giants Juventus in a record transfer deal of 32.6 million pounds. Buffon has become a Juventus legend, having been playing at the club for over a decade. From 2001 to 2012 Buffon appeared in 320 matches, which makes him one of the most notable Juventus veterans.
From 1995 to 1997 Buffon played 11 matches for the Italian U-21. Starting from 1997 Gianluigi Buffon is the first goalkeeper of the Italian national team.
