Gorka Iraizoz Moreno is a Basque goalkeeper who plays for Athletic Bilbao.
He started as a player of a local club Chantrea and performed there from 1998 to 1999 in their youth team. Then he moved to the Basque country and consequently joined Athletic’s farm clubs such as Bilbao Athletic and Baskonia that play in low-rank divisions of Spain. He spent the season of 2001/02 at another Basque club Guernica, after that he was transferred to Espanyol. Right after the deal was penned he went on loan to Eibar and a year later, in 2005, Gorka Iraizoz made his professional debut.
At first Gorka was a second keeper after Idriss Cameni in the season 2006/07, but he was a first-choice keeper during the club’s fantastic performance in the UEFA Cup. Espanyol lost to Sevilla only in the penalty shootout.
In 2007 Gorka returned to Athletic and was labeled a firm starter until he got a severe injury that left him out of the squad for the second half of the season. The club had to sign a 37 year-old Armando Rivero from Cadiz to substitute their injured goalkeeper.
The star time of this player came in a game against Real Madrid. Having made 14 saves after the attacks of Kaká and Cristiano Ronaldo he was named the man of the match.
Gorka also helped his team to make it to the Europa League and the Copa del Rey finals in the season 2011/12.
