Grant McCann is a midfielder of Peterborough United. He was born on 14 April 1980 in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
In 1998, Grant put pen to paper of his first professional contract with West Ham United after two years in the academy of the club. However, the footballer made only four appearances for ‘The Hammers’ before being sent on loan to Livingston, where he took part in four fixtures during his spell as well. From 2000 till 2002, McCann performed on temporary basis at Notts County and Cheltenham Town and netted three goals in 40 games for both teams.
In 2002, the midfielder transferred to Cheltenham Town and amassed 31 goals in 166 matches for the club during five seasons.
In 2006, Grant drew the attention of Barnsley and sealed a temporary deal with the team in November the same year. The footballer found the net one time in seven fixtures for ‘The Tykes’ during his spell and earned an invitation to the main squad on permanent basis. In 2007, McCann penned a contract with the club and fired three goals in 34 matches during one season.
In 2008, the midfielder finalized a move to Scunthorpe United and went on to net 18 times in 102 games for ‘The Iron’ during one year and a half.
In 2010, Peterborough United secured Grant’s services on a long-term deal and saw him score 21 goals in 103 fixtures as of February 2013.
From 2000 till 2001, the footballer made 11 appearances and chipped in three goals for the Northern Ireland national U-21 squad. From 2001, he has been capped 39 times and contributed four goals for the full national team.
