Gueida Fofana

The French football player Gueïda Fofana is a defensive midfielder who plays for Lyon.

Fofana’s career began at Mont-Gaillard; being a member of the club the boy aroused interest of Le Havre managers. However he preferred ignoring the offers of the new club, remaining close to his family and friends. Nevertheless, after constant inquiries Fofana joined the new club and at the age of 12. In the training centre of the club the player turned into one of the most promising prospects. In 2008 he signed an elite contract until June 2011. In the 2008/09 season in spite of being just 17, he appeared on the bench and featured as a senior player during next several matches. In the 2009/10 season he started training with the first team on constant basis.

At the first competition of the new campaign Fofana appeared on the bench in the match against Tours in the League Cup. On 18 August 2009 he made his debut in a league match against Tours as a substitution in the 78th minute. On 26 September 2009 the football player first started in the match against Metz, where he played all 90 minutes. The first professional goal was scored by the footballer on 26 November to Ajaccio. After two weeks Fofana earned his first red card (after two yellow cards that he got during just 26 minutes of the match that they lost to Clermont). He ended the campaign with 31 appearances and 1 goal.

Fofana started the 2010/11 season as a first team midfielder. On 20 August 2010 he helped Le Havre to defeat Stade Reims, opening the match. In this season Fofana scored the first goal in the game with Metz. In January 2011 the attempt to transfer to English club Aston Villa failed, that is why Fofana signed his first three-year professional contract with Le Havre on 28 January 2011.

Lyon signed a four-year deal with the football player on the last day of the summer transfer window. Fofana was glad to play for Lyon. He made his debut on 14 September 2011 in the match with the Dutch Ajax in the UEFA Champions League.
