Helmuth Duckadam is a retired Romanian goalkeeper born on 1 April 1959 in Semlac, Romania.
Helmuth started out his senior career with UTA Arad in 1978 and in four years he joined prominent Steaua Bucureşti where he enjoyed the pinnacle of his fame. Duckadam recorded two Romanian League titles and the 1984/85 Romanian Cup together with the club. However, he sparked furor and became renowned worldwide after the 1986 European Cup Final against Barcelona. Duckadam saved four consecutive penalty shots in the penalty shootout thus grabbing the major European trophy for his side.
No long after the glorious victory Duckadam suffered a blood disorder and was suspended from game for three years. In 1989, he returned to play his last two seasons with Vagonul Arad. It is reported that after finishing his playing career Duckadam became a police officer in his home town and opened a football school in the area.
