Ivan Ivanov is a back of Basel. He was born on 25 February 1988 in Zlatitsa, Bulgaria.
In 1998, Ivan joined the academy of Pirin 1922 and started to perform for the junior squad of the club. It took the footballer six years to give a final touch to all the preparations for a professional start and perfect his skills, which helped him to put pen to paper of a senior contract with the team in 2004. Ivanov made six appearances for Pirin 1922 during one season and transferred to CSKA Sofia, where he netted six goals in 53 matches during five years (excluding his loan spell at Lokomotiv Plovdiv).
In 2010, the back sealed a four-year deal with Alania Vladikavkaz and fired two goals in 24 fixtures for the new club during one year. In June 2011, Ivan completed a move to Serbian side Partizan and found the net eight times in 59 games for ‘The Black & Whites’.
In the summer 2013 the Bulgarian completed a move to Basel.
From 2006 till 2008, the footballer took part in nine matches and scored one goal for the Bulgaria national U-21 squad. From 2008, he has been capped 31 times and contributed one goal for the full national team.
