Ivo Iličević is a Croatian footballer who now defends the colours of Hamburger SV. He plays mainly as an attacking midfielder.
Ivo was born on November 14, 1986 in Aschaffenburg, Germany. He commenced his youth career in the academy of FC Südring Aschaffenburg where he was mainly deployed as a side striker. In 1996 Ivo joined Viktoria Aschaffenburg`s youth ranks. He played for the club as a forward but soon his coaches moulded Ivo into an attacking midfielder. On March 24, 2004 Iličević made his competitive debut in the match against SC Pfullendorf. In that match he scored his first league goal. Ivo hit a total of 8 goals in 44 outings during his two-year spell at the club.
In 2006 the footballer committed his future to the Bundesliga side VfL Bochum. He put pen-to-paper on a four-year deal with the club. Ivo made an impressive debut for Bochum in the match against Mainz. He scored his first Bundesliga goal to Arminia Bielefeld on September 24, 2006. In January 2008, Iličević completed a season-long move to Greuther Fürth.
The next step in his career was a short-term loan move to Kaiserslautern. On August 31, 2011, just a few hours before the transfer window shut, HSV announced that the Croatia international had signed a four-year contract with the club.
Ivo Iličević has been called up by his national team four times so far.
