Jaap Stam is a footballer from Netherlands, born in 1972 in Kampen. He began to play for a local football team DOS Kampen and gave a start to his professional playing career in 1992, when he joined FC Zwolle, competing in the Eerste Divisie. In 1993 Stam moved to Cambuur Leeuwarden but his new team relegated from Eredivisie in his first season there. In 1995 he moved to Willem II for a season and then joined PSV Eindhoven. There he became a key player and helped the side to win Eredivisie title in 1996/97 and was named Dutch Footballer of the Year.
Stam moved to Manchester United in 1998 and played for them until 2001. Throughout his three-year season stay they won three Premier League titles, in 1998/99 they won FA Cup and in 1998/99 Manchester United claimed UEFA Champions League victory. Stam played for Lazio since 2001 and in 2006 he returned to the Netherlands signing for Ajax. He retired in October 2007.
Jaap Stam played for the Natherlands national team since his debut on 24 April 1996, which was a 0-1 loss against Germany, and until 2004. In total he made 67 appearances.
