Jack Butland is a goalkeeper of Stoke City. He was born on 10 March 1993 in Bristol, England.
Jack’s youth career took off in the academy of Clevedon United, where the footballer spent several years before completing a move to the junior system of Birmingham City in 2007. Butland was one of the few keepers in the academy, who possessed all the necessary qualities to become a professional one day. It took Jack three years to get ready for a senior level and earn an invitation to the main squad.
In 2010, the footballer penned his first contract and spent one year and a half with the club before being sent on loan to Cheltenham Town. Butland made 12 appearances during his spell and gained the confidence of the manager, who decided to extend the keeper’s spell for six months in January 2012. Jack took part in another 12 fixtures for the temporary team and returned to his parent Birmingham City.
In 2013 a Premier League side Stoke City secured the player’s services but sent him back to Birmingham on loan till the end of the season. Later on Butland had a brief spell with Barnsley.
From 2008 till 2011, the footballer featured in 21 games for the England national U-16, U-17, U-19 and U-20 squads. From 2011, Butland has been capped seven times for the national U-21 team. In 2012, the keeper took part in five matches for the Great Britain Olympic football squad. On 25 May 2012, Jack received his first call-up to the senior ‘Three Lions’.
