James McArthur is a midfielder of Wigan Athletic. He was born on 7 October 1987 in Glasgow, Scotland.
James’s professional career took off in 2004, when he graduated from the academy of Hamilton Academical and joined the main team of the club. McArthur officially became a senior footballer after penning a contract with ‘The Accies’. During first years with the squad, the midfielder rarely came on the pitch with the starting eleven, but in the course of time he managed to win head coach’s confidence, which became a key factor in his clinching a regular place. James made 168 appearances and found the net ten times for Hamilton Academical during six years.
A lot of English clubs took an interest in the footballer, but Wigan was the first to put its wishes into shape by lodging a bid for McArthur in 2010. The bid was accepted and it did not take long for the parties to agree the terms of transfer. In the summer 2010, the club officially completed the signing and welcomed James into the fold, where he featured in 49 matches and fired three goals during three years.
From 2008 till 2010, McArthur took part in two games of the Scotland national U-21 team. From 2010, the footballer was capped seven times and contributed one goal for the full national team.
