A Spanish footballer Jofre Mateu González performs as an attacking midfielder for Girona FC. Jofre was born on 24 January 1980 in Alpicat, Lleida.
Mateu went from the youth ranks of Barcelona. His first-squad debut took place on 15 May 1998 during the last round of that season. He came as substitute in a match with Salamanca. Jofre performed mainly for the reserves and only four years later he appeared one more time with the first team.
In 2002, the midfielder signed for Levante UD from the Spanish second division. In 2004, he helped the club to earn the promotion to La Liga. The next season, he made 27 league appearances and left the club.
In 2005, the player opted to return to Catalonia, where he joined RCD Espanyol from the top flight. Unfortunately, he didn’t become the squad’s anchor player and the club narrowly managed to avoid the relegation. Jofre made up his mind to move to Murcia, where the following two seasons would pass. His good performance helped the club to earn the promotion to the first division.
In the summer 2008, Mateu was scouted by Rayo Vallecano from the second division. The spell was lined with 65 appearances made and five goals netted. In 2010, the midfielder was bought out by Valladolid. He stayed at the club until 2012 making 69 appearances and racking up 5 goals. In 2012, Jofre agreed on a deal with Girona FC.
On international level, Jofre Mateu made ten appearances for Spain U-18 team from 1998 to 1999.
