Jonás Gutiérrez is a midfielder of Newcastle United F.C. He was born on 5 July 1983 in Sáenz Peña, Argentina.
In 1999 Jonás joined the Vélez Sársfield academy and brought closure to his youth career after gaining optimal playing shape, which helped him to begin steady performance in professional football.
In 2001 Gutiérrez penned a contract and became the first team player of the club. After Jonás started to perform at perfectly new level of football and responsibility, he pushed himself to the limit during trainings so that to secure his place as a regular on continuing basis. The midfielder’s diligence and determination helped him to gain the head coach’s confidence and to score two goals in 99 matches during four years.
After such a solid start, the Argentine footballer drew the attention of many European clubs. Spanish side Mallorca made an offer to buy Jónas from Vélez Sársfield and the Argentine side club was satisfied by the terms of the transfer. In the summer 2005 both sides discussed all details of the signing and the footballer spent the 2005/2006 season as a regular of the new club. Later he played for two more seasons, making 96 appearances and netting five goals for the Spanish side club during three years.
In 2008 English side Newcastle United was looking for a player, whose position and role would be like Jonás Gutiérrez’s ones. The club’s agent had a meeting with Mallorca representatives and they reached preliminary agreement after the end of negotiations. In the summer 2008 the Argentine footballer officially joined Newcastle United, becoming an anchor player.
In January 2014 Gutiérrez was loaned to Norwich City.
