Lothar Matthäus is a world famous German manager and retired player. He received the European Footballer of the Year and World Soccer Player of the Year after he led West Germany to victory in the 1990 FIFA World Cup. A season later he was selected the FIFA World Player of the Year.
The striker holds the record of playing in five World cups (1982, 1986, 1990, 1994, and 1998). He helped his country to claim UEFA Euro 1980 and collected 150 caps.
The midfielder was famous for his precise passing, superb tackling and strong shot.
Matthäus started playing football at the club level in the small club FC Herzogenaurach, while his first professional club was Borussia Mönchengladbach where he played from 1979 to 1984.In 1984 he signed a deal with Bayern Munich and helped the side to capture the Bundesliga title twice and the DFB-Pokal.
Matthäus and Bayern teammate Andreas Brehme joined Internazionale in 1988, winning the Scudetto in 1988/1989 during their first season, and the Italian Supercup .
After returning to Bayern Munich in 1992, Matthäus won four Bundesliga titles, two DFB-Pokals, another UEFA Cup and reached a second European Cup final.
In 2001 the German started his managerial career taking charge of SK Rapid Wien. He also worked with the Hungary national team, Atlético Paranaense, Red Bull Salzburg, Maccabi Netanya and the Bulgarian national team.
