Luis Suárez. Biography
Luis Suárez is a forward, born on 24 January 1987 in Salto, Uruguay.
Luis began his youth career in the Nacional academy, where he trained and played for the youth team till 2005.
In 2005 there were serious positive changes in the footballer’s career. He was offered to sign his first professional contract for Nacional, which he eventually did the same year and played for the club till 2006. During a year, Suárez was the key forward of the team and scored ten goals in 27 games of the 2005/2006 season.
In 2006 the footballer was bought by Groningen, which paid €800,000 for him. In 2006/2007 Luis made 29 appearances for the Dutch club and netted ten goals.
In 2007 Suárez continued his performance in one of the best Dutch clubs Ajax Amsterdam. ‘The sons of Gods’ paid about €7.5 million, which meant Groningen’s investments in the Uruguayan player rose ten times. The young footballer signed a long-term contract, according to which he played for the club till 2011. Luis was a regular of the team and took part in almost every match during four years. He had a scoring flair that helped him to amass 81 goals. Suárez became a scoring-machine for the club and helped it to reach the Eredivisie top. The South American goleador took part in 110 matches during four years for Amsterdam team.
In 2011 the Uruguayan footballer accepted an offer from FC Liverpool and signed a four-and-a-half year contract. The transfer fee was about £23 million. Luis became a regular from the very first match and played for the team till 2014. He became a world-class striker in Liverpool despite being vastly critisized for diving and unsporting conduct. All in all, Suarez netted 82 goals in 133 matches for The Reds.
In the summer 2014 he moved to FC Barcelona in a deal worth an estimated £75million.
In 2007 Luis was capped four times for the Uruguay national U-20 team and contributed two goals. In 2007 he was invited to the senior team for the first time. From that year he has scored 40 goals in over 70 games for the main national squad.
During the 2014 World Cup in Brazil Suarez bit Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini and was banned from professional football for four months.
