Lukas Podolski was born on 4 June 1985 in Gliwice, Upper Silesia, Poland. He is a German footballer of English side Arsenal and ‘The DFB-Eleven’.
In 1987 his family immigrated to West Germany. Lukas grew up in a small town Bergheim, which is near Cologne.
At the moment Lukas plays for London side Arsenal. On 30 April 2012, the club’s management officially announced his move to ‘The Gunners’ and signed a four-year contract with the player. Podolski also played for Bayern Munich after the 2006 World Cup, but the things did not go well there.
Lukas always wanted to play for the Poland national team, but in 2003 German mass media took an interest in him. Those were his Germany national team performances that helped the footballer to reveal his talent. He played in the Germany U-17 team and made five appearances for the national U-21 squad, taking part in European Youth Championship.
The forward’s debut for the senior national team came in June 2004 in the match against Hungary.
Lukas Podolski set a record for the strength of a kick in the 2010 World Cup in the match against Australia, which ‘The DFB-Eleven’ eventually won.
