Maicosuel Reginaldo de Matos was born in Brazil in 1986. He began his professional career at Atlético Sorocaba, in 2005/06 was a part of Paraná and helped the side to win Paraná State League. In 2007 he joined Cruzeiro, made 9 appearances and was loaned to Palmeiras in 2008. In 2009 Maicosuel was loaned to Botafogo where he proved himself as a promising player, he made 20 appearances and scored 13 goals. He attracted attention of many European clubs.
The 2009/10 season he spent in Germany, being bought by TSG 1899 Hoffenheim for a fee of €4.5 million. He made his debut on 8 August 2009 in the Bundesliga game against Bayern Munich, which ended in a 1-1 draw. After that he returned to his former Brazilian club Botafogo. Maicosuel stayed there until his move to Udinese on 13 July 2012. He penned a 5-year contract with the Italian outfit and plays there as an attacking midfielder. Maicosuel marked his Serie A debut, which was a game against ACF Fiorentina, with a goal.
