A Portuguese footballer of a French descent Manuel da Costa plays as a defender for Sivasspor. He was born on 6 May 1986 in France. Manuel represents the Portugal national team at the international level, despite the fact that he can’t speak Portuguese fluently. According to his words he feels Portuguese, that’s why he chose Portugal over France.
Manuel started his professional career at Nancy in 2004. The 2005/2006 season was lined with 10 appearances in Ligue 1. Costa also took part in the French League Cup and scored one goal. The footballer was soon noticed by various European clubs. He opted to join PSV from Netherlands in 2006. But in 2008 Costa was bought out by Italian Fiorentina for a fee of €4, 5 million. However he didn’t make a breakthrough into the first eleven, so in January 2009 he was sent on loan to Sampdoria.
In the summer 2009, Da Costa penned a three-year contract with West Ham United from England. In June 2011, he transferred to Lokomotiv Moscow. He had spent a year with the team, before he was sent on loan to Nacional in 2012. Upon returning from loan da Costa completed a move to a Turkish side Sivasspor.
Manuel da Costa performed for the Portugal national youth team during the period from 2006 till 2008.
